Blocks that Print

Who We Are

A handmade atelier rooted in Jaipur, where block printing isn't a craft revival — it's just how things have always been made.

I grew up in Jaipur surrounded by colour, print, and the sound of teak blocks hitting fabric. The city's workshops have produced some of the world's most extraordinary textiles for centuries — patterns carved by hand, dyed with precision, repeated block by block until something beautiful emerges.

When I moved to the US, I kept looking for that same joy in the things around me. I couldn't find it. So I went back to Jaipur, partnered with the artisan families I'd grown up around, and built Blocks that Print — a brand rooted in craft, colour, and the belief that handmade things are always worth it.

“In a world of beige, whites, and clean aesthetics — we will always choose colour and prints.”

Artisan pressing hand-carved teak block

The Craft — 01

Block Printing

Every print begins with a master carver cutting a pattern into teak wood — a simple geometric block might take a day; a complex floral set, a month. The block is dipped in dye and pressed onto fabric by hand, repeat by repeat, aligned perfectly by eye from a lifetime of practice.

No machine. No screen. The slight variations — an edge that runs a little uneven, a colour that deepens in one corner — are the fingerprints of the person who made it. We celebrate them.

The Craft — 02

Quilting

Once printed, our fabrics are hand-quilted — layers of cotton stitched together in rows to create the distinctive texture you feel in every bag, pouch, and mat we make. Each piece is then cut and finished by skilled tailors in our partner workshops in Jaipur.

The quilting gives our products their structure, softness, and the satisfying weight of something genuinely well-made.

Paper Craft

Our paper goods are printed on 100% recycled cotton fibre paper — a centuries-old Rajasthani tradition of turning textile waste into something beautiful. Cotton scraps from garment factories are pulped, pressed into sheets, and left to dry with their natural deckled edges intact.

Then we block print them. Gift bags, notebooks, wrapping sheets — all made without cutting a single tree.

From Jaipur to You

How every piece is made

01

Design

Every print starts with us — drawn by hand, refined through dozens of rounds, then handed to master carvers in Jaipur who cut the pattern into teak blocks.

02

Block & Print

The carved block is dipped in dye and pressed onto fabric by hand, repeat by repeat. Aligned by eye. From instinct built over a lifetime. No two runs ever exactly the same.

03

Cut, Quilt & Finish

Printed fabric is quilted, cut, and stitched by skilled tailors in our partner ateliers. Each piece checked by hand before it leaves Jaipur.

What We Believe

Small batches. Direct partnerships. No shortcuts.

We work directly with artisan families in Jaipur — not through agents or export houses. We know the workshops. We know the makers. We use non-toxic, AZO-free dyes. We pay fairly and on time.

We produce in small batches on purpose. Big runs mean compromises — in quality, in craft, in the relationship with the people who make the work. We'd rather make less and make it right.

And above all: we believe the most beautiful things in your home and your bag should be handmade — not despite the irregularities, but because of them.
